2023 Year in Review

As we say goodbye to 2023, CITA mountain bikers and trail lovers have much to celebrate. There’s even more to look forward to in 2024! Many thanks to all our volunteers, and you, our members, who made this year so memorable. Be sure to read the full newsletter for details on what's happening this year and events and activities coming soon!

All Year 

  • Trail stewards and volunteers invested over 2000 hours in trail repairs and maintenance. THANK YOU!!!!

  • Ongoing input to Polk County Conservation on the new Fourmile MTB Park. If all goes as planned, we could be riding there in Fall 2024!

February 

  • Annual Meeting Party at Captain Roys, 50 members, lots of door prizes, new board members were introduced, and lots of trail and bike talk.

March

  • Peter England, Jolie Erbacher, Kyle Landsbuger, Eric Perry, Wendy Smith and Nathan Wagner join the CITA Board. Jeremy Caron elected as VP, Paul Larsen as Secretary. Dave McCloney continues as President, Jerrid Kruse as Treasurer.

May

  • Monday Night No-Drop Dirt Rides (MNNDR) begin. Great crowds almost every Monday night!!

  • Movie Screening of Biketown at Varsity Theater, over 75 people got amped for the upcoming season and deepened their appreciation for what it takes to develop and maintain our trails. Thanks to Kyle’s Bikes and Polk County Conservation for sponsoring!

July

  • Friday Night Women’s No Drop (Dirt) Ride kicks off bi-weekly at Center Trails with 26 riders of all ages.

August

  • Summer Camp at Whiterock Conservancy. A fun weekend of camping, mountain biking, eating and talking trails and bikes.

September

  • Bridge repair & replacement at Ewing Park Trails. Thank you Trail Gnomes!

October

  • Dirty Du had a beautiful day for a mountain bike/running race with 65 participants. Thanks so much to all our generous sponsors.

  • Bridge replacement at Banner Trails was a big effort from volunteers, supported by a grant from Warren County Philanthropic Partnership.

November

  • CITA 25th Anniversary Party with 75 members celebrating our origin when a few dedicated mountain bikers came together to launch the amazing trail system we have today.

  • Veteran’s Day Mountain / Sycamore 25th Anniversary Ride drew a large crowd that started off by singing Happy Birthday to Sycamore trails!!

2024 Preview

While 2023 was surely a wild ride, 2024 is gearing up to be just as fun! Stay tuned for updates throughout the year.

  • Hump Day at the Pits Returns to Banner

  • Visit the CITA booth at the Iowa Bike Expo

February

  • Join us February 25th for our annual meeting party at Captain Roys

Spring 

  • Fourmile MTB Park Construction starts

  • New signage at Sycamore and Banner Trails

  • Ritual Bike Film Screening at the Varsity Cinema May 1st 

  • MTB weekend at Cuyuna Lakes MTB Trails (MN) in May or June (tentative)

Summer

  • Summer Camp at Whiterock Conservancy August

Fall

  • Fourmile MTB Park ready to ride (fingers crossed)!

  • Dirty Du Race at Center Trails on October 13th 

  • MTB Weekend at Bentonville, AR October 18th - 21st 

Winter 

  • Global Fat Bike ride on December 7th
