WHAT:
Fun for everyone; bring your family and friends! We’ll enjoy 30 miles of dirt trail and everything else Whiterock has to offer (canoeing, fishing ponds, volleyball, etc.) and bring some fun of our own:
1. Group rides/hikes/floats
2. Gravel road race (cash purse!)
3. Dinner provided by Whiterock
4. Live music in a legendary barn featuring Brother Trucker
5. Homebrew contest, plus free beer from Court Avenue
WHERE:
Whiterock Conservancy is about an hour west of Des Moines… Take the Highway 141 Exit off of Interstate 35/80 on the northwest corner of Des Moines, towards Perry. Stay on Highway 141 through Perry, Bagley, and Bayard. The Garst Farm Lodge is 6 1/2 miles west of Bayard, just west of the Raccoon River bridge . For the hardcore, bicycling to Whiterock from Des Moines is fairly easy using the Raccoon River Valley Trail and some backroads.
LODGING:
Whiterock offers everything from B&B pampering to primitive campsites. Have a look at the options and plan to stay for the weekend.
SCHEDULE
1.00pm — gravel road race
4.00pm — keg is tapped
6.00pm — dinner is served
8.00pm — Brother Trucker rocks the barn
GRAVEL ROAD RACE
We’re presenting a 45-mile rollercoaster around the river valley for those who want to hurt a little bit. This is a grassroots affair — not fancy, just satisfying. Winner takes $200 courtesy of Jerry Clark Construction. Click here for a map of this beautiful and challenging course shortly, and know that we’re expecting finish times around 3 hours.
REGISTRATION:
Registration includes dinner, beer, Brother Trucker concert, camping, continental breakfast Sunday morning plus access to all that Whiterock has to offer. $35/person; kids are free. Bring your family and all of your friends!
