Thank you all to the twenty brave souls that care enough about singletrack in Central Iowa that they came out in the rain and wind to help us build at Banner today. That’s right! Twenty people, our biggest turnout of the Spring, helped add to what will be the most fun trail in Central Iowa. Special thanks goes out to Steve Parvi who was the only builder to make it to all five work days (driving from Colfax, no less). Honorable mention goes to Steve’s dad Pete who made to all but one (get well soon Pete!). Congratulations to our raffle winnners: Kent Carlson won an IMBA hat, Scott Russell won a pair of Oakleys and Sam Lopez won a “some-expenses-paid-trip” to the Big Wheeled Ballyhoo in Decorah next month. Nobody left empty-handed. Pint glasses were given to everyone who showed up today and trail work also earned them free entry in the Summerset Shootout IMBCS #4 in June (including Kent Carlson and Steve Fuller, the only full-time IMBCS racers to show up and build this Spring, thanks guys!).
Bench, berms and bridges were built in the soggy state park after early morning showers drenched much of the metro area. While half of the crew built two great berms, over 60 feet of bench and a couple great jumps, the other half built and installed a big 22 foot long bridge and a couple smaller ones connecting the first section of trail built last Fall with the interior ridgeline section we’ve been working on this Spring. After building, our esteemed treasurer Sam Lopez grilled up some buffalo burgers and beans while we toasted to a great day of trail building the only way we know how: Pabst, Hamm’s and Schlitz. After most bailed, opting not to ride the soggy trail, Ryan and Steve toughed things out and did some riding. Although some of the trail was a bit too sticky to ride, there were a few nuggets that were dialed and ready to go. I think on a dry day a more skilled rider (not Kent Carlson!) could easily ride the entire trail (hint, hint, nudge, nudge, Chad). So, here is a short video to wet your appetite for Banner:
Here are some links to more video and pictures (sorry I didn’t get any pics of actual trail building… we were all a bit busy)…
As hard as everyone has worked all Spring, there’s still a bit more work to be done. We’re going to be meeting up Monday, 7.00pm, at The Pub at the House of Husar in West Des Moines to discuss some plans for future trail work. We’re also going to be talking about the upcoming race in June and many other things. Come join us and have your voice be heard!
If you have photos from the day and you’re on Flickr, CITA wants you… well, your pictures. Go to the official CITA Flickr Group and ask to join. Ed will key you in and then you can share your pics with the whole world!

I’ve got two or three more videos to upload, but they’ll have to wait for tomorrow… tired, going to bed… see you Monday!

Three point shot:
1. The Poll was accurate.
2. I may be slow, but I’m faster than Justin.
3. There’s more work to do; stay tuned for how YOU can help.
Boo.
oh snap!
The bridge looks great except for the last approach where the craftsman arranged the top tread in a zigzag order or manner on either side of the center, otherwise known as staggered.
Great job guys, thanks for all the hard work! See you on 6-29.
